Some people see imports of Canadian oil produced from tar sands as a way to reduce U.S. dependence on oil imports from potentially unstable Middle Eastern countries and from Venezuela. Others call for developing unconventional oil from shale rock (Science Focus 15.1) as a domestic resource in order to reduce U.S. oil imports. Still others oppose both of these options because they involve environmentally harmful processes. What is your view on this issue Explain.
