(b)At the job, people should listen to their colleagues, peer group, managers and customers.
(c)People can find out that others are listening to him or not, from their nonverbal cues. Gesturers, postures, and facial expressions are best indicators for this purpose.(d)Following barriers lead to poor listening-
• Physical barriers- These are one of the most common barriers in listening. It includes noise, extreme hot or cold temperature, poor communication devices, or poor sitting place. All these factors create distractions for the person. Thus it hampers their active listening.• Physiological barriers- It includes the emotional states of a person like anger, frustrations, or prejudice. These factors influences a person's understanding skills, therefore it hampers effective listening.• Personal barriers- some people face certain personal barriers like faking attention, trying to interrupt the speaker or selective listening. These barriers hamper a person's ability to listen carefully.
• Language barriers- unfamiliar language, poor accent, and over emphasis on certain words can change the meaning of a sentence. Hence it results in poor listening.(e)Some tips for good listening are illustrated as given below-
• Stop talking: People should stop talking when the speaker is about to start his speaking. For example, in college a lecturer is going to start his presentations people should stop talking among themselves.
• Try to remove distractions: While talking to someone focus on their words rather than looking somewhere else or doing other things. Normally, students start shuffling their books, or looking out of the window at the time of lecturer that hinders their listening ability.
• Don't keep any prejudice regarding the speaker: To not judge the speaker from his appearance or clothing. Prejudice also hampers effective listening.• Focus on non-verbal communication: Along with the verbal message of the speaker also try to understand their non-verbal messages from their gesturers, postures, and facial expressions.
