Before embarking on your job hunt, you may want to know what employers might find if they searched your personal life in cyberspace, specifically on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and so forth. Running your name through Google and other search engines, particularly enclosed in quotation marks to lower the number of hits, is usually the first step. To learn even more, try some of the people-search sites such as 123people, Snitch.name, and PeekYou. They collect information from a number of search engines, websites, and social networks.
Your Task. Use Google, 123people, and another search tool to explore the Web for your full name, enclosed in quotation marks. In Google, don't forget to run an Image search at http://www.google.c//mgh-images.s3.amazonaws.com/9781305560239 to find any photos of questionable taste. If the instructor requests, share your insights with the class-not the salacious details, but general observations-or write a short memo summarizing the results.
