PATIENT SITUATION
Leonard LeMonte is a 57-year-old, African American man who has come to his primary care provider because of persistent headaches that increase in intensity as it gets later in the day. His overall health has been good, although he is approximately 50 to 60 pounds overweight. Past medical history is significant for borderline primary hypertension and non-insulin-dependent diabetes, type 2 (diet controlled). Leonard tells you he works in a high-stress environment. He shares great concern with you that he fears losing his job and not being able to pay his bills and meet other financial commitments for his family. Mr. LeMonte tells you he has little time for hobbies or recreational outlets because he works so many hours.
CARING
Ethical Knowledge: Mt LeMonte tells you that he frequently skips doses of his Glucophage because he can't afford the expense. He asks you not to tell his wife about this because he doesn't want her to worry. What will you do?
