How does Horney's concept of basic anxiety compare to Maslow's safety needs and love needs? Apply this concept to Cindy's experiences before and after her adoption.
Horney's concept of basic anxiety is a feeling of insecurity due to not receiving adequate love/attention from parents. It can vary in intensity. It is a cross between deficiencies in Maslow's safety needs, which includes feelings of security, and love needs. Most likely Cindy experienced fairly intense basic anxiety before her adoption but only experienced it minimally after the adoption because of the neglect that occurred prior to the adoption and the loving experiences she encountered after the adoption.
2
What was the outcome of the needs being fulfilled or not fulfilled?
When physiological needs are not fulfilled the outcome is physical illness.Cindy had diaper rash, and was malnourished resulting in a lack of growth and development. When safety needs are not met, fear, and insecurity develop.A lack of fulfillment of love and belongingness needs results in feelings of loneliness and being unwanted.
