Deck 8: Fuel and Engine Management Systems
1
What are the two basic designs of variable venturi carburetors and how do they differ?
The two basic designs of variable venturi carbs are the mechanical slide and constant velocity carburetors. The rider lifts the slide in a mechanical slide design while engine vacuum lifts the slide in a CV type carb when the rider opens the butterfly.
2
A(n)____ shuts off air to the idle circuit to prevent backfiring.
A)enrichner
B)accelerator pump
C)float valve
D)air cut valve

D)air cut valve
D
3
What is a throttle by wire system?
A throttle by wire system replaces a physical cable from the throttle to the butterfly valve with an electronic sensor, wiring and other sensors that reads the degree of throttle opening that the rider has chosen and then allows the air to enter the engine.
