Deck 19: Products Manufactured From Wood
1
Explain in general what plywood panel construction is and how it is constructed.
Plywood, manufactured for nearly a century, is one of the most widely used wood products. The manufacturing process uses a lathe to peel thin veneer from water saturated logs. Plywood panels are made by bonding together the thin layers, or plies, of wood. The grain in each ply layer is arranged perpendicular to the grain of the next layer. Panels always have an odd number of plys, such as three, five, or seven. Each ply may be a single thickness veneer or two veneers glued together.
2
Define Class 3 hardboard.
Class 3 is service-tempered. Service-tempered class is impregnated with siccative material and stabilized by heat and additives. Its properties are substantially better than Service Grade.
3
Define Class 1 hardboard.
Class 1 is tempered hardboard. It is impregnated with siccative material and stabilized by heat and special additives to impart substantially improved properties of stiffness, strength, hardness, and resistance to water and abrasion, as compared with the Standard Class.
4
____ panels are used where panels may be subjected to occasional moisture after they are in service.

A) Exposure 1
B) Exposure 2
C) Exterior
D) Interior
