What are eaves and rakes designed to do?
Eaves and rakes are designed to protect walls from excessive wear, provide shade, and complement the architectural style of the
building . The eaves are the part of the roof edge that runs parallel with the roof ridge. The rake of a roof is perpendicular to the ridge and eaves.
3
When are gutters installed and what are their basic properties and purpose?
After shingles are in place gutters may be installed, although this is often delayed until the exterior is finished to keep them from being damaged. Gutters are commonly made from either aluminum or vinyl. The finished roofing material extends about 3/4 in. over the edge of the fascia and directs water into the gutter. The gutter also serves as a decorative finish on the fascia.
