Deck 13: Writing the Research Report for Potential Publication
1
Explain the value and benefits of submitting research for publication.
Submitting research for publication provides a peer review of the researcher's work; submission of the report also allows networking to occur with individuals who have similar research interests. Publication can enhance researcher's career, particularly in academia. Publication also can assist the researcher who is hospital based in obtaining health-related grants as well as much-needed budgetary resources for additional staff and graduate research assistants.
2
Identify five questions to consider when selecting a DNP capstone project committee chairperson.
Questions to consider when selecting the DNP capstone project committee chairperson include (1) is the person knowledgeable about your research topic; (2) do you interact well with the person; (3) does the person have a good working relationship with other faculty members; (4) does the person usually meet deadlines in a satisfactory manner; and (5) how many other committees is the person serving on?
3
Relate the importance of the research proposal to the institutional review board (IRB) process.
The research proposal is a vitally important document because it states what both the intended topic of research and the plan for project implementation. A concise, succinct proposal can be a virtual guarantee of a smooth, expedited journey through the institutional review board (IRB) process. However, if the proposal is written so as to be confusing or conflictual, the IRB process may be extended and even culminate in rejection by the IRB.
