Intersex and transsexuality are separate and distinct conditions, although they can sometimes be co-occurring. Intersex is a biological condition where an individual is born with sex characteristics that do not fit typical male or female categories. Transsexuality is a condition where an individual identifies as a gender that is different than the one they were assigned at birth. Not all intersex people are transsexual and not all transsexual people are intersex.
