Fragile-X syndrome is a sex-linked genetic disorder caused by a mutation in the FMR1 gene on the X chromosome. Since men only have one X chromosome, they are more likely to be affected by the disorder than women who have two X chromosomes, giving them a greater chance of having a normal copy of the gene on one of their chromosomes.
