Red bone marrow is responsible for producing red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets through a process called hematopoiesis. It is found in the spongy bone of certain bones in adults, such as the vertebrae, sternum, and pelvic bones. It is also found in large quantities in infants, but gradually gets replaced by yellow bone marrow as we age.
