STIs are primarily contracted through sexual contact, including vaginal, anal, and oral sex. Contraceptive pills or implants do not provide protection against STIs. While oral sex has a lower risk of transmitting STIs compared to other types of sexual activity, it is not rare for STIs to be transmitted through oral sex. Additionally, STIs are not rare among U.S. adolescents. In fact, young adults aged 15-24 account for nearly half of all new STI diagnoses in the U.S. each year.
