Absolute confidentiality means that counsellors cannot share any information with anyone, including the police, without the client's consent. This builds trust between the counsellor and the client, allowing the client to feel safe to share their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgement or repercussions. However, there are certain exceptions to absolute confidentiality, such as if the client expresses harm to themselves or others, in which case the counsellor may need to breach confidentiality to ensure the safety of the client and/or others.
