Carbaminohemoglobin is formed when carbon dioxide (CO2) bonds with hemoglobin (Hb) in the blood. The carbon dioxide diffuses across the capillary walls and enters the red blood cells where it reacts with water to form bicarbonate ions (HCO3-) and hydrogen ions (H+).
