The AV valves (mitral and tricuspid) are open during ventricular filling (diastole) while the semilunar valves (aortic and pulmonary) are closed. When the ventricles contract (systole), the AV valves close and the semilunar valves open, allowing blood to be ejected out of the heart. So, they are never open at the same time.
