Paul was important for successfully arguing that Jewish religious laws need not apply to Christians. His teachings helped to shape the early Christian church and allowed for the inclusion of non-Jewish converts. While he did write many letters (Epistles) that are included in the New Testament, he did not write the Gospels or the teachings of the apostles. He also did not argue for women to speak in church as his writings suggest a patriarchal view of gender roles. Additionally, Paul was not the first pope as the concept of the papacy did not emerge until later in the development of the church.
