The Acadians, also known as Cajuns, were French Canadians who were resettled in Louisiana. They were originally from the French colony of Acadia in what is now Canada's Maritime provinces, and they were forcibly removed by the British in the mid-18th century during the Great Expulsion (Le Grand Dérangement). Many of those expelled eventually made their way to Louisiana, where they developed a distinct culture and community.
