The source of much of Catholic moral theology and the Church's position on sex and related issues was formed in the Middle Ages in the writings of St.Thomas Aquinas, who believed that sex:

A) in all its forms was basically evil.
B) could be central in the lives of a husband and wife.
C) was approved outside marriage for the husband, but not the wife.
D) was intended for procreation, which reflected the "natural law."
