The ductus deferens, also known as the vas deferens, is part of the male reproductive system and is responsible for transporting sperm from the epididymis to the ejaculatory ducts. It passes through the inguinal canal as it moves from the scrotum into the pelvic cavity, but it does not store sperm cells until ejaculation, travel through the bladder, ascend the abdominal cavity along the posterior side of the kidney, or pass just beneath the skin to the penis.
