Participants in a study by J. S. Morris et al. were presented with subliminal pictures of faces, some of which had been previously paired with an aversive noise. Results from the study revealed that:

A) the prefrontal cortex responded to the aversively conditioned stimuli, even though participants had no conscious awareness of having seen a conditioned face.
B) the amygdala responded to the aversively conditioned stimuli, even though participants had no conscious awareness of having seen a conditioned face.
