Estrogen and progesterone are produced by the ovaries and regulate the uterine lining. FSH and LH, produced by the pituitary gland, control the production of eggs and the levels of estrogen and progesterone. Prolactin, however, is primarily involved in milk production and not directly in the menstrual cycle.
