Alteplase (Activase) is contraindicated in patients with recent (within 3 months) intracranial hemorrhage, severe uncontrolled hypertension, active internal bleeding, or any history of recent significant trauma or surgery (including recent head injury). A head injury five days before would be a contraindication due to the risk of bleeding in the brain. History of asthma, DVT, or childbirth one year prior are not contraindications for the use of alteplase.
