Avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder (ARFID) is characterized by a lack of interest in eating food, oversensitivity to certain aspects of food (such as texture or smell), or concerns about the consequences of eating (such as gastrointestinal distress or choking). Unlike anorexia, the person with ARFID does not necessarily experience body image disturbances or have a specific desire to lose weight.
