Malcolm X was a prominent advocate for black nationalism and self-determination. He believed that integration was not a sufficient solution to the problems facing African Americans and instead insisted on the need for economic and political autonomy. He was critical of what he saw as the passive tactics of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, instead advocating for more aggressive and confrontational tactics in pursuit of racial justice.
