Tensor fasciae latae is a thin, flat muscle located on the lateral side of the thigh. It originates from the iliac crest and inserts into the iliotibial tract. The iliotibial tract is a thick band of fascia that runs down the lateral side of the thigh and inserts into the tibia. The tensor fasciae latae helps to abduct and externally rotate the thigh.
