Leukaemia is a type of blood cancer that affects the bone marrow and results in the overproduction of abnormal white blood cells. Despite an excessive number of white blood cells, these cells may not function properly and may be unable to defend against infections, leading to inadequate defence capabilities. Polycythemia is not a symptom of leukaemia. High blood pressure and eosinophilia may occur in certain types of leukaemia, but they are not general symptoms.
