Studies have shown that psychopaths tend to continue their criminal careers long after other offenders age out of crime. They are also often more likely to commit violent crimes and recidivate at higher rates than non-psychopathic offenders. However, it is not true that psychopaths comprise 65 percent of U.S. prison inmates and they are not necessarily less likely to reoffend within a year of release. Furthermore, psychopaths who do reoffend are more likely to do so in violent ways, not nonviolent ways.
