After meals, the liver cells take up glucose and produce glycogen through the process of glycogenesis. This helps store excess glucose and maintain blood glucose levels. The pancreas actually secretes insulin, not glucagon, in response to high blood glucose levels after meals. The brain does continue to receive adequate glucose, but this is not the only thing happening after meals. While fatty-acid conversions do occur, they do not supply about half of the ATP needed by muscle and liver cells after meals.
