Dr. W.E.B. Du Bois was an advocate for complete equality for African Americans, and helped found the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) to fight for civil rights. He did not support the gradualism and accommodationism of Booker T. Washington. He himself was not an ex-slave, nor did he dislike blacks who pursued elite educations, as he himself earned a PhD from Harvard. Tuskegee Institute was actually founded by Booker T. Washington.
