In the Solow growth model, higher population growth can dilute capital per worker, leading to a lower standard of living as resources are spread more thinly across a larger population. This model does not inherently address the direction of causality between total factor productivity and population growth, nor does it assume a constant total population. Total factor productivity improvements are generally seen as beneficial for long-run standards of living.
