Children with Duchenne's muscular dystrophy are identified when the child has difficulty getting off of the floor, falls frequently, has difficulty climbing stairs, and starts to walk with a waddling gait pattern secondary to proximal muscle weakness. Another symptom of proximal muscle weakness is increased lumbar lordosis. While a tight iliopsoas can contribute to lordosis, muscle weakness is more common in this population.
