David Livingstone is most well-known for his missionary and anti-slavery work in Africa. He traveled extensively through the continent, and his writings and speeches raised public awareness about the horrors of the slave trade. While he did not personally put an end to the Zanzibar slave market, his work contributed to its eventual abolition. He also did not climb Mount Ararat or discover the source of the Nile, although he did extensively explore the Zambezi River and Victoria Falls region. While he did not construct an Anglican cathedral on the site of the Zanzibar slave market, a cathedral was eventually built there in his honor.
