A gland is an organ that produces and releases substances that perform a specific function in the body. There are two types of glands: endocrine and exocrine.
Endocrine glands produce hormones and secrete them directly into the blood.
Exocrine glands secrete their products into a duct that carries the products to the target tissue. Your sweat glands are an example of exocrine glands.
"A group of cells that respond to specific hormones" are target tissues.
The nervous system transmits nerve impulses between parts of the body.
