The heart has 4 chambers: 2 upper chambers (the right and left atrium) and 2 lower chambers (the right and left ventricles). Blood passes through a valve before leaving each chamber of the heart. The purpose of these valves is to prevent the backward flow of blood.
There are 4 valves:
