The Organ of Corti contains hair cells, which are triggered by the mechanical force of sound.  The mechanical force of sound causes vibrations in the cochlear fluid, which triggers the hair cells. The hair cells turn the mechanical force into electrical impulses that it sends to the auditory nerve, which then communicates with the brain about the sounds being heard. 
The Maculae of Utricle and Saccule are organs in the inner ear that help us with balance. The Cristae ampullares, also located in the inner ear, detect acceleration and deceleration.
