Soong Meiling, also known as Madame Chiang Kai-shek, was Jiang's wife and a prominent political figure in China, but did not play a direct role in the ousting of the Communists. Sun Zhongshan, also known as Sun Yat-sen, was a founding member of the Guomindang party but passed away in 1925, before the ousting of the Communists. Mao Zedong was a leader of the Chinese Communist Party and was actually one of the Communists ousted from the Guomindang party by Jiang Jieshi.
