Close-end funds are traded on secondary markets, such as stock exchanges, just like stocks and other securities. They are not traded on a primary market as they are not initially issued to the public through an IPO, nor are they traded on a tertiary market as there is no such thing. They are traded on a secondary market where investors buy and sell shares amongst themselves, and the price of the shares is based on supply and demand.
