Jones and Harris conducted a famous study in which participants were asked to read an essay that was either pro or anti-Castro, and then rate the attitude of the writer towards Castro. Even when they were explicitly told that the writers were assigned their position and had no choice, participants still tended to rate the writer’s attitude towards Castro as more favorable if they had written a pro-Castro essay.
