The Iroquois League, also known as the Six Nations, originally consisted of the Mohawk, Oneida, Onondaga, Cayuga, and Seneca tribes. The Tuscarora tribe joined later, in the early 18th century. The Cherokee, however, were not part of the Iroquois League; they were a distinct group located primarily in the southeastern United States.
