Turing's imitation game, also known as the Turing test, is a test of a machine's ability to exhibit intelligent behavior equivalent to, or indistinguishable from, that of a human. Turing proposed the test in his 1950 paper "Computing Machinery and Intelligence" and defined it as a game in which a human interrogator converses with two other parties—one human and one machine—and tries to determine which is which. Turing restricted the game to digital computers because he believed that they were the most promising candidates for achieving artificial intelligence.
