The racial classifications in the U.S. census of people of Asian descent have changed multiple times. In the 1870 census, Chinese were the only Asian group counted, while in 1890 and 1900, Japanese were also included. Starting in 1910, Filipinos were counted separately from other Asians, and in 1920 and 1930, Asian Indians were also included.
