Infants eat rapidly when they are very hungry. If fed before becoming excessively hungry, the infant will eat at a slower rate. Using a nipple with a smaller hole will not prevent swallowing excessive air. Infants should be placed on their back; however, can be put on their 'front to play' for short periods under supervision. Water should not be given in between feedings. All infants should be burped frequently throughout the feeding.
