The first action should be to get the alcoholic medically physically assessed. In situations when alcoholics have become physically dependent on the chemical and then without alcohol for a long period of time the reaction to consuming that much alcohol and then withdrawing again can be most severe. For example elevated blood pressure might need to be controlled.
