This is the traditional story of Orpheus and Eurydice from Greek mythology. Orpheus played his lyre and sang so beautifully that Hades, god of the underworld, allowed him to take his wife Eurydice back to the world of the living. However, he was warned not to look back at her until they had both crossed the threshold of the underworld. Sadly, Orpheus could not resist the urge to look back and lost Eurydice forever.
