Palliative care is focused on improving the quality of life of patients with life-threatening illnesses. It broadens the health care options available to dying patients by addressing physical, emotional, and spiritual needs. It does not aim to treat or cure the disease, but rather to manage symptoms and provide comfort care. While it may allow for patients to die at home, this is not its primary focus nor is it an exclusive feature.  Treating only the patient does not capture the full scope of palliative care's holistic approach to addressing the needs of the patient and their family.
