Equity theory in mating assumes reciprocity in that persons look for a fair, even match of resources. This means that both partners are expected to contribute equally to the relationship and receive equal rewards from it. This is in contrast to the idea that each person is out to maximize his or her own rewards, even at the expense of the other (A). Equity theory also takes into account that partners may have different types of resources to offer (C) and does not predict that all men would want to marry the same, most beautiful woman (D).
