The Thirteenth Amendment abolished slavery and involuntary servitude, the Fourteenth Amendment granted citizenship and equal protection under the law to all persons born or naturalized in the United States (including former slaves), and the Fifteenth Amendment prohibited the denial of voting rights based on race, color, or previous condition of servitude. These three amendments were all added to the Constitution during the Reconstruction Era following the Civil War, and are therefore known as the Civil War Amendments.
