The Seminole Wars resulted in the removal of thousands of Seminoles from Florida to Indian Territory (present-day Oklahoma). The wars ended with the signing of the Treaty of Payne's Landing in 1832, which promised that if the Seminoles agreed to move west of the Mississippi River within three years, they would be given a reservation in Indian Territory.
