D) Immerse the old slide in bleach for 24 hours, remove the cover slip, immersed in Xylene for 30 minutes, immerse in potassium permanganate for 5-10 minutes, rinse with water for 5 minutes, immerse in 5% glacial acetic acid for 5 minutes, rinse, and re-stain with the appropriate stain.
